Thomas Smolich, S.J., international director for the Jesuit Refugee Service, gave the talk, “The Society of Jesus’ response to refugees,” at a luncheon of the Jesuit Alumni and Friends of Detroit, Oct. 4.
Fr. Smolich addressed the refugee situation in the world today, the inspiring vision of Pedro Arrupe, S.J., who founded the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) in 1980 as a response to the Vietnamese boat people crisis and what the work of the JRS might mean for us in the U.S.
The Jesuit Refugee Service is a Catholic organization that aids refugees, forcibly displaced people and asylum seekers around the world.
