CLASA and the McNichols Campus Library will host an art exhibition featuring student work from El Salvador’s Centro Arte para La Paz on Thursday, April 4, in the Library’s lobby. Peggy O’Neill, S.C., lived in Suchitoto, El Salvador, for more than 30 years before establishing Centro Arte para La Paz. She started the center for youth traumatized by war and violence to experience healing through the arts. Prints of Social Justice heroes designed by students of the Centro will be available for purchase. All proceeds benefit the center.
Sr. O’Neill will give a talk about her work with the center at 4 p.m. in the lobby, followed by a reception from 5 to 6:15 p.m. The art exhibit will remain in the McNichols Campus Library until Friday, April 26.
Immediately following the exhibit, everyone is invited to the Student Union Ballroom for the UCA Jesuit Martyrs Scholarship Fundraiser dinner. Sr. O’Neill is the keynote speaker and will share memories of the Jesuit martyrs and Dean Brackley, S.J., who founded the scholarship. Salvadoran pupusas will be served and local artist Joe Reilly will provide music for the event.
RSVP for the dinner at presbegm@udmercy.edu or ministry@udmercy.edu. This event is free for students and a $10-15 sliding scale is suggested for employees and community members.
