Detroit Mercy has made a significant jump in The Wall Street Journal’s (WSJ) 2020 Times Higher Education (THE) college rankings that were released Sept. 4. The University is ranked among the top 20% of all U.S. universities.
The WSJ/THE ranked Detroit Mercy 172 out of almost 1,000 schools in the U.S. It is the highest ranking to date that the University has achieved in the WSJ/THE college rankings since their release three years ago. In 2019, Detroit Mercy ranked 193 and in 2018, the University ranked 188 out of the top 1,000 universities in the U.S.
The WSJ/THE College Rankings has earned critical acclaim for its pioneering new approach to ranking U.S. colleges and universities that places student success and learning at the heart of rankings. These rankings provide students and institutions with access to a comprehensive list of more than 1,000 institutions evaluated on their educational impact and the lifetime benefit to students.
“We are very honored to be ranked again in the top 20% of American universities by The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education 2019 College Rankings,” said Antoine M. Garibaldi, Ph.D., president of Detroit Mercy. “Our continuing success in recruiting outstanding students from the state and across the country is due to this type of exceptional recognition of the quality of our students, the academic and personal support they receive, and the campus community’s dedication to our Jesuit and Mercy mission and traditions,” he added.
The 2020 rankings are comprised of 15 individual performance indicators designed to answer the questions that matter most to students and their families. These indicators include data sources such as the U.S. Government’s Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), U.S. Dept. of Education’s Federal Student Aid and the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), among others.
In addition, the WSJ/THE rankings examine resources available to students, engagement, student outcomes and university environment. Learn more about the WSJ/THE 2020 methodology online.
