Knights of Equity LogoThe Knights of Equity is a national Catholic Irish Fraternal Society established in Cleveland, Ohio in 1895. On Sept. 17, 1924, the Knights of Equity Memorial Scholarship Commission began. On Oct. 30, 1924, Detroit’s Court #6 of the Knights of Equity established an ongoing memorial scholarship for the benefit of the Knights of Equity members, heirs and other persons of Irish heritage.

For more than 90 years, Knights of Equity Memorial Scholarships have been awarded to students at Detroit Mercy who have at least one parent of Irish decent and who are members of the Roman Catholic Church. Recipients are required to join either the Knights of Equity or Daughters of Erin and continue membership while under scholarship. Awardees are also required to attend the Knights of Equity Gala in late September/early October each year in the Detroit area.

All scholarship requests must include the following:

  • Name and contact information (U.S. mailing address, email, phone)
  • Academic program enrolled
  • Year of study (freshman, sophomore, etc.) as of Fall 2020
  • “What my Irish Heritage means to me” statement
  • Latest transcript
  • $25 application fee (First-time applicants only)
    • Make checks payable to Tim Higgins.
