President’s Convocation set for Aug. 16; webinar option now available

Faculty, staff and administrators from all three of Detroit Mercy’s campuses are invited to attend the annual President’s Convocation on Monday, Aug. 16 in the Student Fitness Center on the McNichols Campus. A webinar option for viewing convocation will also be available, following the reinstatement of the mask mandate in all buildings.

Convocation formally opens the new academic year and will include a State of the University address, which will provide updates on the Student Union renovation and expansion, projected enrollment, budget forecast and much more. The University will also welcome new colleagues, announce the faculty recognition awardees, honor emeriti faculty and present the Agere ex Missione Mission Leadership Awards.

Activities begin with breakfast at 9:15 a.m., followed by the program at 10 a.m. A to-go lunch will be provided around 11:30 a.m. — some seating will be available in the Student Fitness Center in addition to numerous outdoor options throughout the McNichols Campus. Employees are encouraged to eat wherever they feel most comfortable.

Following lunch, employees can enjoy outdoor activities near the Student Fitness Center or participate in the annual softball game at Buysse Ballpark, just west of the Briggs Building. Please arrive by 12:30 p.m. if you are playing softball. Casual summer attire is recommended for the President’s Convocation.

In addition to the in-person program, employees may view the President’s Convocation through a Zoom broadcast. Breakfast and lunch will still be provided and can be picked up in the Student Fitness Center (9:15-10 a.m. for breakfast and approximately 11:30 a.m. for lunch).

Employees are asked to please wear their name tags and masks if attending convocation in person.

Complete this survey by Aug. 6 in order to assist in planning for food, seating and the softball game.
