Jesuit Virtual Exchange Programs benefit faculty, students

For the third consecutive year, Detroit Mercy students enrolled in Spanish courses have the opportunity to meet with students in Spanish-speaking countries participating in the Association of Universities Entrusted to the Society of Jesus in Latin America (AUSJAL), which consists of 33 Jesuit universities in Latin America.

Students studying Spanish with Adjunct Professor Tizziana Carmona during the fall 2021 semester have met virtually with students from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, located in Cali, Colombia, to improve language proficiency in Spanish while building friendships and mutual understanding.

Dual language immersion programming is available to students studying Spanish and English from all Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) and AUSJAL partners. In addition, the AJCU and AUSJAL provide virtual faculty exchanges. Associate Professor of Health Services Administration Renady Hightower has held several virtual learning sessions with colleagues from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana over the last two years.

These exchanges were coordinated through Detroit Mercy’s Language & Cultural Training program. For information about opportunities to collaborate virtually with Jesuit institutions across the globe, please contact Lara Wasner at 313-993-1191 or wasnerle@udmercy.edu.
