The reigning Horizon League men’s basketball Player of the Year Antoine Davis will start the season as the preseason favorite for the award, it was announced on Wednesday by the conference office.
Davis was voted the Horizon League Preseason Player of the Year and the Titans were selected to finish sixth as a team in the preseason coaches poll.
If Davis were the repeat, it would be just the seventh time in Horizon League history that a student-athlete has garnered the award multiple times and just the second Titan following Rashad Phillips ’01.
Detroit Mercy’s all-time leading scorer with 2,734 points, Davis led the Horizon League in scoring (23.9 points per game) last season, which also ranked third in the nation. He is trying to become the first player in HL history to top the league in scoring four times, while also taking aim at Pete Maravich’s career mark for scoring in NCAA Division I (3,667 points).
Davis is a four-time First Team All-Horizon League selection, the first player in conference history to make All-League four times.
