March is Reading Month Children’s Book Drive

Rx for Reading Detroit logoThrough the end of the semester, Rx for Reading Detroit is collecting new and gently used children’s books from the Detroit Mercy community. We are in particular need of board books, picture books, early readers, Spanish and bilingual books, and books with culturally diverse characters. Please contact english@udmercy.edu or Gazale Chami, one of Rx for Reading Student Coordinators, to schedule a delivery.

Since 2014, Detroit Mercy’s Rx for Reading program has distributed more than 206,500 books to children and families in Metro Detroit. That’s more than one book for every child in Detroit.

Another high-impact way to support our work is by giving a monetary gift at our Detroit Mercy Giving Page. 100% of donations are used to purchase new books and build free libraries in our community. We distribute new books to local Head Start and Great Start preschoolers and through literacy events throughout our community.

Employees can also set up an automatic payroll deduction to support children’s literacy every month. $10 per paycheck allows us to purchase over 300 brand new books over the course of a year. To make a recurring gift select College/School/Program #1 and specify Rx for Reading.

Thank you for supporting the rights of every child this March is Reading Month!
