Detroit Mercy participates in first Mercy Roundtable on Nonviolence

A number of Detroit Mercy faculty and administrators from the McNichols, Riverfront and Corktown campuses participated in the Conference for Mercy Higher Education’s Mercy Roundtable from May 30-June 1.

The conference was held at Salve Regina University in Newport, R.I. It was the first Mercy Roundtable held in the United States.

The roundtable addressed the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas’ Critical Concern of nonviolence. Participants from Mercy colleges and universities around the country shared their perspectives on how to promote nonviolent thought and practices and support peace at our institutions and in our communities.

Participants from Detroit Mercy presented on subjects including architecture, esports, implicit bias, restorative justice, sex discrimination and the epistemic violence of Western-focused curricula on indigenous knowledge.

The conference hopes to address other Critical Concerns in future biennial gatherings.
