VIDEO: Hundreds return to campus for Homecoming
Whether it was enjoying a s’more at the Titan Tailgate bonfire, taking the field for the alumni softball game, winning a carnival game at the Fall Festival or rooting on the Titans’ men’s soccer team, everyone had a memorable time at Detroit Mercy’s 2021 Homecoming.
More than 1,600 alumni, students, faculty and staff, family and friends attended nearly two dozen events on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 1-2 to help celebrate Homecoming.
“Once again Homecoming left us feeling inspired and uplifted because of the energy and enthusiasm generated when we all come together and celebrate Detroit Mercy traditions,” said Peggy Pattison, director of Alumni Relations at Detroit Mercy.
Those in attendance enjoyed a Titan Tailgate and bonfire as well as a drive-in movie Friday night ahead of Saturday’s full day of activities.
The annual Tour de Titan bike ride helped kick off Saturday’s festivities with participants cycling nearby neighborhoods as well as campus.
Alumni took part in a softball tournament from Detroit Mercy’s Buysse Ballpark and the Fall Festival on Saturday featured food trucks, casino and lawn games, a rock wall and several other carnival games at the Kassab Mall.
Also outdoors was a taping of “Ask the Professor,” while indoors in the buildings on McNichols Campus were several reunions, including the College of Health Professions celebrating 80 years of Mercy. The Golden Jubilee reunion helped celebrate the Classes of 1970 and 1971.
Calihan Hall also showcased the men’s and women’s basketball teams for alumni and fans for the first time in 2021.
The Detroit Mercy men’s soccer team helped cap off the full Homecoming weekend, battling rival Oakland to a 2-2 draw beneath a light drizzle and the lights of Titan Field.
“Detroit Mercy Homecoming continues to grow each year and has become a marquee event for the entire University community,” Pattison said. “We look forward to seeing even more people next fall at Homecoming 2022.”
