Business students looking to establish themselves as a writers and a researchers can begin submitting articles to the new Advances in Management & Ethics Research (AMER), a double-blind, peer-reviewed biannual journal.
AMER is supported by the Center for Practice & Research in Management & Ethics (PRIME Center), which is housed in the College of Business Administration at University of Detroit Mercy.
“We’re moving our business programs to a more hands-on, experiential education model, in which students learn by doing,” said Joseph Eisenhauer, dean of the College of Business Administration. “AMER will help us achieve that objective by giving students reviewing and editing responsibilities. At the same time, the journal will serve as a national resource in management and ethics, where students from all across America can publish and read original research in this field. We see this as an innovative way to launch a dialogue about ethical management among students throughout the country.”
AMER will serve as a national platform for the recognition and promotion of high-quality undergraduate research in management, which includes fields such as business ethics, organizational behavior, leadership, organizational psychology and human resources.
“AMER presents a tremendous opportunity for the PRIME Center to open new doors to the research experience for College of Business Administration students,” said Evan Peterson, director of the PRIME Center and Arnold Jarboe Chair of Business Administration.
“Our students will gain a unique, first-hand look into all facets of the publishing process by serving as editors and peer-reviewers of submissions from students across the country,” Peterson added. “In this way, our students will help to recognize and promote cutting-edge student scholarship in management and ethics nationwide.”
Undergraduate students currently enrolled in a business program at any accredited institution are welcome to submit research papers for review.
Recent graduates may submit papers for review within six months of graduation, provided that the work was written during undergraduate study.
Each submission must have a faculty sponsor. Students may submit research conducted under the direction of a faculty member, but no research co-authored with faculty members.
There is no submission fee or publication charge.
Submissions are eligible for the Best Paper Award, including a $250 honorarium and a certificate.
“AMER presents a unique opportunity to build a peer-reviewed student journal from the ground up,” Peterson said. “I look forward to working with our business students to grow AMER into a nationally recognized journal of student research on management and ethics.”
AMER provides an opportunity for students to have their work published in the journal, but also for students to serve as peer-reviewers.
“Students who serve as AMER peer-reviewers or editors will further develop their communication and critical thinking skills beyond the classroom setting,” Peterson said. “For those students interested in pursuing advanced degrees, or students considering careers in academia, service as peer-reviewer or editor with AMER will set them apart from other students.”
AMER will begin accepting submissions Sept. 1. Submissions received before Dec 1, 2019 will be considered for the first edition, planned for Spring 2020.
