A team of 12 UDM undergraduate researchers and faculty collaborators from the Biology and Chemistry & Biochemistry Departments recently had their work published in Toxics.

The research explored how Roundup® (glyphosate) and cyanobacterial toxin microcystin-LR, two contaminants that can occur in freshwater environments, affect the hepatopancreas (liver) of crayfish.

Guided by Professor of Chemistry Kendra R. Evans, Professor of Biology Gregory M. Grabowski, Professor of Biology Rachelle M. Belanger and Assistant Professor of Biology Levi Storks, the following UDM students participated in the research:
  • Mona Khalil
  • Antonillamarein E. Hanna
  • Brandon T. Kenaya
  • Amira S. Abuhmoud
  • Sarah A. Magid
  • Miranda J. Jasinski
  • Shaza Ahmed
  • Andrew A. Bosah
  • Sabrina A. Cacanindin
  • Oswaldo Celestino Escobar
  • Yara A. El-Sheikh
  • Evelyn M. Rihacek

The students conducted histological and flow cytometry analyses to investigate how these environmental contaminants affect tissues and cells.
