Virtual screening of “The Six Triple Eight,” March 8

The Women’s and Gender Studies Program is a community partner with The Zekelman Holocaust Center in the screening and discussion of The Six Triple Eight.

The virtual screening is set for Tuesday, March 8 at 7 p.m. The film is available on demand from March 2-9 at holocaustcenter.org.

The discussion on March 8, International Women’s History Day, is with the movie’s executive producer James Theres, producer Edna Cummings and Detroit Free Press columnist Nancy Kaffer.

The Six Triple Eight, from Lincoln Perry Films, centers around the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, known as the SixTripleEight, which was the only all-Black female battalion to serve in Europe during World War II. The unit, which encountered racism and sexism from their own leaders and troops, helped clear over 17 million pieces of backlogged mail near the end of the war in 1945.

The program is being co-presented by Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History as well as the Wayne State Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies Program.

Register for the virtual screening.
