CLASA dinner for UCA Jesuit Martyrs Scholarship

CLASA dinner for UCA Jesuit Martyrs Scholarship

The Carney Latin American Solidarity Archive (CLASA)’s annual fundraiser dinner for the UCA Jesuit Martyrs Scholarship is set for Tuesday, April 5 at 6:45-9 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.

The dinner, in its 11th year, is free for students and a suggested donation of $10 or more for others.

This scholarship, named after the six Jesuits, their housekeeper and her daughter who were killed at Universidad Centroamericana (UCA) in November 1989, funds university scholarships for students from poor families in El Salvador.

A folklore dance performance by Ballet Folklorico Mexico Lindo, a dance troupe that includes Architecture student Arianna Carrera and alumna Roxann Alonso ’87, will take place at the dinner. The featured speakers are Tizziana Carmona and Gene Palumbo.

The dinner includes a traditional Salvadoran dinner, including pupusas.

A virtual option is also available for those unable to attend.

The event is co-sponsored by University Ministry, Jesuit Community at Detroit Mercy, Languages and Cultural Training, International Student Office and the Gesu Peace and Justice Committee.
