Update in FDA and CDC Vaccine Guidance

Update in FDA and CDC Vaccine Guidance

Although the University COVID-19 vaccination requirement ended on May 8, it is strongly encouraged that you remain up-to-date with recommended vaccinations.

Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) amended the recommended vaccination schedule for most individuals. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is in support of the updates and recommendations.

Part of this update discontinues the use of a monovalent (the original) mRNA vaccine.  You can read the FDA news release for full details on the change in recommendations.

Additionally, knowing if you have COVID-19 remains an important part of containing the spread of illness to others. Free COVID-19 over the counter tests are available. If you have COVID-19 test kits that may be expired, you can check for an extended date of expiration by manufacturer here.

As always, you may reach out to the University Wellness Coordinator with questions or guidance on the University protocols by phone at 313-418-8525 or email beaverjm2@udmercy.edu.
